How Does Total Battle Chest Tracker Work version 3.0?

This guide will show you how the new version of Total Battle Guide's Chest Tracker v3.0 works

Total Battle Guide’s Total Battle Chest Tracker v3.0 reads chest and clanmate data directly from the game, reducing its reliance on OCR. When it encounters an unknown chest, OCR and other identification methods help identify it for future recognition.

The Before

Before Total Battle Guide's (SICGames) TBChestTracker < 3.0 used Tesseract OCR. It would be configured using OCR Studio which allowed users to render a rectangle on screen (Area of Interest) where the program would crop from the screen shot then feed that cropped image into the OCR.  There wasn't any kind of scoring system which penalized bad OCR results.

For instance: if OCR read "From: Bob"  and returned "m: Bob" then it would have been accepted, giving clan leaders or clan superiors  faulty names and incorrect spellings. There was light cleanup but not a lot.

Tesseract OCR doesn't do so well on low quality images nor game textures. A lot of image filtering had to be done to get somewhat the best results. And sometimes that wasn't enough.

The Prototype

Total Battle Chest Tracker version 3.0 entered into early development and utilized a better and more  sophisticated OCR that utilized GPU instead of CPU. And what was added as a  OCR confidence score ,  which penalized bad spelling.

So if OCR read: "From: Bob"  and it turned into: "rom: Bob" especially after clanmate cleanup; it would give it a -0.25 score before finalizing. And if it had a low score then it'd return undefined instructing the program to there was an issue.

And the screen shot didn't just go through one-pass; it was bombarded by multiple passes to see which type of image-filtering won the best result.

So if gray scale returned rom: Bob but binary thresholding returned: Bob then binary thresholding won. During development, this was done on the local machine until brought to the server. So unfortunately, because the VPS (virtual private server) didn't support GPU, it had to be configured for CPU.

Well, that went well as expected. VPS CPU usage was screaming and saying, "No mas, senior!" then onto the next phase: Bringing it to a GPU server through renting it.

It did well, it worked, everything seemed gravy. But one developer testing the program and running out of GPU rental credits was hurtful.

The Now

Now, with Total Battle Guide's TBCT (Total Battle Chest Tracker version 3.0),  it rarely requires OCR to lift a finger. It obtains your chest/clanmates and everything else straight from the game. It wasn't a easy feat either. A lot of research and time went into this. Initially, OCR had to teach the system what was what. The game doesn't return anything useful to the human eye. Just numbers and to people -- it wouldn't make a lot of sense.

The training was the trick, OCR would read a chest row then teach the new system the chest information. As time gone by, with enough chests, the new system understands virtually every chest there is in the game.

And incase, somehow, it doesn't, the system will depend on OCR to teach it along other methods on teaching it properly. So the next time, the system sees that chest -- it will know it forever. Because every chest information chest gets added into a database that allows users to drop down a list of Chest Types, inside Clan Insights Admin -> Chest Points -> Add Chest Points.

A very huge victory over the old way of keeping track of Chests in the game of Total Battle. This opened new doorways of easier clan management, as well.

To summarize, once you launch the game window from the Total Battle Chest Tracker; your clanmates and chests are already loaded up and read before you even have a chance to close the game's store page. It can handle a lot more chests and takes less than a few minutes to publish to Clan Insights; allowing your clanmates to see their chests live.

There may be a small delay though where the app will not show, "We're preparing X chests to be published..." and that is when you'll need to click on the Clan icon -> Members Tab -> Waiting a bit  -> Click on Gifts tab. What that does is it refreshes your clanmates list and sends it back to the server. And by clicking on Gifts, you're generating a manifest and sending that to the server. Which will tell the application that everything checks out and continue. Then you'll see "We're preparing x amount of chests." Then after your clan's chests is prepared then you'll get a slide in notification on top-right of the game window saying, "Hooray! We've published x amount of chests."

So that LIVE status on Clan Insights page, is actually LIVE and whenever the chest counter account is using Total Battle Chest Tracker version 3.0; your chests are being  published as the application processes new chest data.  So when your clanmate is marching towards a level 35 epic crypt and completes it; the application will automatically let the website know that your clanmate has completed an crypt.

And that's the most amazing thing ever! It's more efficient and smarter.
