How To Explore A Crypt In Total Battle Like A Pro

This guide will walk you through how to effectively explore crypts inside the game of Total Battle.

In this article, we'll discuss on how you can improve your exploration of crypts inside Total Battle.

What Are Crypts?

Crypts are explorable objects in Total Battle which will give players materials to craft better gear. And once a crypt has been explored completely, your clan will obtain chest from that crypt. That's why when you click on Clan icon -> Gifts tab, you'll see a chest from your clanmate.

There are different crypts:
  • Common Crypt (Crypt)
  • Rare Crypt
  • Epic Crypt
  • Citadels (Not explorable but required to obtain Dragon Keys to unlock Rare Crypts).

Common Crypts (Crypts)

Common Crypts are the first crypts you're told to explore in the game. The game's tutorial starts you out with exploring a level 5 crypt nearby your city.

Rare Crypts

Rare Crypts are introduced after completing Crypts II research in the Academy. Since they require Citadels to unlock them.

Epic Crypts

Epic Crypts are introduced after completing Crypts III research in the Academy. They require special tar called Epic Tar. Epic tar can be obtained from clan chests, winning in tournaments, killing Tin Man (Golden Ancient) and through purchases.

Citadels

Citadels are monster strongholds which after defeating the stronghold will give players: Dragon Keys. And Dragon Keys help unlock Rare Crypts. There are some rumors that after defeating citadels and clanmates receive a chest; they'll receive tar.  This can be true, and this is why Reward Intelligence was built inside Total Battle Chest Tracker.

How To Improve Exploring Crypts?

To improve upon your exploration of Crypts, focus on few things: gear, research, talent points and especially your Carter's. Carter's needs to level up and when he does, so does his Crypt Exploration Efficiency does too. Unfortunately, after our good friend (Carter) level is pass 300 -- he doesn't produce any more bonuses.

Getting Better Gear

At first, you would want to only target the crypts that will yield only 1 type of crypt exploration gear. You don't need a full matching set, just one gear is fine for all three slots on your Carter.

Each gear allows a gemstone and an enchantment to be attached to the gear. The gemstones you want to focus on mainly are Ambers.

Enchantments are different from gemstones: once destroyed, they’re gone forever. The Good News is that Enchantments can be obtained from the Olympus Event.

To give an extra boost in exploring crypts, give Carter an Pioneer Enchantment.

Improving Gear Quality

Only way to improve Gear Quality is to merge 4 same material togethers to level up the material quality.

So you'll need 4 poor quality materials to craft 1 common material.
4 poor quality materials -> 1 common material
8 poor quality materials -> 2 common materials
12 poor quality materials -> 3 common materials
16 poor quality materials -> 4 common materials  -> 1 uncommon material

If you wanted to know how many materials it would require to get 1 ascended material?
4⁷ = 16,384 Poor materials for 1 Ascended material.

You can combine your materials/gems/enchantments from the Forge -> Workshop Tab.

Best Ways To Improve Gem stone Quality?

Best way to improve Gem stone quality is to explore a lot of rare crypts, disenchant any gems that are not used a lot or don't plan on being used a lot. main gems you'd want is: Jewel (Increase Army Strength), Jasper (Increase resource production in city),  and of course Amber (increases Crypt Exploration Efficiency).

Tar Capacity Gems aren't great and should be disenchanted. Everyone has a preferred gemstone they don't want or need and disenchant them.

Once you've disenchanted enough gem stones, they'll turn into: Flickering Powder. Flickering Powder then can be used to craft desired gems you want except for Cyanite (Boosts in army strength against epic monsters - only obtainable through Seasonal Kingdom Event).

So Amber should be the first one you'd want to craft better gems for. Also, they don't break and can be safely removed using pincers. Pincers are tools sometimes obtained in clan chests and can be purchased with gold.

Hero Talents

To view your hero's talents; click on your Hero's Avatar, then click on the Talents button.

Improving your troops strength is great, but also do add in some talents in Archeology. It will help you immensely.

So the must do is to assign talent points on Crypt exploration Cost, Chance to explore a crypt twice, Crypt exploration Efficiency, Rare Crypt Exploration Efficiency ... So in other words, anything that will lower the cost of tar to explore a crypt, increase the efficiency of exploration of a crypt, and a chance to explore a crypt twice will benefit you a lot more.

What is Exploration Progression?

From what Total Battle support has said: you'[re fighting the crypt.
So they're treating them similar to monsters, it sounds like.

Chance To Explore Crypt Twice -> Chance To Increase Double Damage and increases rewards

Crypt Exploration Cost -> Lowers the tar requirement to explore a crypt. More talents + research goes into this, the less tar you waste on exploring the crypt. Perhaps this can be viewed as your troops health... less troops to revive and survive the battle.

Crypt Exploration Efficiency -> How the exploration bar progresses. Which is a bit fuzzy. From what can be seen is that Chance To Explore Crypt Twice, You do seem to get more on the exploration progress bar.  Leveling up Carter gives 1% extra Crypt Exploration Efficiency; but you do need to level Carter up a lot more than just 1 level to see the benefits.

Also to note, every crypt has it's maximum amount of "health". On my smaller account, much smaller account, a level 5 common crypt requires 1,176 common tar to explore fully. The account doesn't have fancy gear like my main does. Poor Tomb Raider gear.  Has almost to Crypt II research done; few allocated talent points assigned to Archeology. Hero level is 7, so has more room to grow and experiment with.

Exploring a Crypt with 10% Tar Bonus

Thanks for the readers for asking this question, and if exploring a level 35 epic crypt at 53k epic tar, won't the game utilize all that tar? No, any tar left over from completing the crypt will return to player. Here's a small video showing you tar spent and unused tar being given back.
